Good evening this is St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School calling with a message about Halloween for Hunger

We hope you and your families are well.

STM’s annual fight against hunger is facing new challenges this year due to Covid-19. There is an even greater need in our community, but for health and safety reasons, the campaign must be adapted to meet these needs in a different way. Our Halloween for Hunger executive team has been working since May to devise a new plan!

Our plan for the past 20 years was to advertise in the community then send out students to collect food on Halloween night. In recent years, that has involved over 800 students collecting from 25,000 homes trying to reach our 100,000 pound goal! This year, to keep our community safe, we are raising money instead. Our goal is $250,000 which translates to an average of $10 per home. Neighbour to Neighbour can use this money to source food and other items needed. Donations can be made directly to the Neighbour 2 Neighbour website using STM’s Halloween 4 Hunger link, which has been activated!

We are asking at this time, if you own a business, please consider making a charitable contribution to Neighbour to Neighbour. If you know someone else who owns a business, please ask them to do the same. Alternatively, we ask you to make a personal donation, if you are able. Every dollar helps! Anyone donating over $20 will receive a tax receipt from Neighbour to Neighbour. Business sponsors will be given the option of a tax receipt or inclusion in our advertising.

Food insecurity is even greater this year. A staggering 1,500 families have been turning to Neighbour to Neighbour regularly, but together, we can make a big difference in our community. We CAN scare hunger!

Thank you and have a blessed evening

As a follow up to the letter that was sent to all families by the school board on Tuesday, September 15th regarding moving students from in-school learning to virtual learning and vice versa, please note the following:

The deadline for secondary school students to switch from in-school learning to online (and vice versa) for the first instructional block is Thursday, September 17th at 3 pm.

No switches will be allowed within this instructional block after this date. The online school has very limited course availability at this time.

At some point in the next few weeks, all families will be given one last opportunity to move their child from in-school to online (or vice versa) for the duration of first semester, the final 3 instructional blocks.

These changes will take effect at the beginning of the second instructional block which begins on Wednesday, October 14th.
