Progress Reports will be distributed this week of March 18 – 22

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held Thursday, April 4 from 1 pm to 3 pm and from 6 pm to 8 pm

Forms for parents and guardians to schedule appointments with teachers will be provided for students to bring home prior to April 4. We encourage parents and guardians to make appointments to come and meet with your teachers.

On Thursday, April 4, students will be on a shortened bell schedule in the morning with dismissal at 12 noon
Graduation Information - Mar. 9/19

Graduation Information - Mar. 9/19

This message is for all parents and guardians of students who plan to graduate this year. The graduation ceremony date is Thursday, June 6. It is held at FirstOntario Concert Hall, formerly Hamilton Place. The ceremony is at 7:00 pm. Graduates are expected to arrive by 6:15 pm.
Potential graduates have this information in a package that each received: GRADUATION EXERCISES 2019. Copies of this package are also available in the MAIN office. The package is also accessible on the STM web site. Grad fees for participation in the various graduation activities is $80 and they are now due. Grad fees can be paid ONLINE. The last day to pay Grad fees is Friday, March 29. Guest tickets will be issued once the Grad fee is paid. Seating at the Grad ceremony is by reserved seating only. All potential Grads are encouraged to submit the student info form for Graduation Awards. To access this form, go to hwcdsb.ca, then click mySite and type in bit.ly/2019STMGradAwards. This form is due by March 22.

March Break - Mar. 8/19

March Break is March 11 – 15. Classes resume on Monday, March 18. There are no school trips during the March Break. Parent permission is required for a student to participate on a school trip and this is communicated to the school with a school issued parent permission form. We thank all parents and guardians who utilize the School Cash on-line manner of payment when payment is required. During the week of the March break, office hours are 7:30 am to 11:30 am and from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Exterior doors are locked. If you need to come to the Main office during office hours, please call the school at 905 388-3030 to arrange for admittance.

Course Selection Using myPath - Mar. 5/19

This is a message for all students who have not yet picked their courses on MyPath and submitted their registration packages for September 2019. MyPath will be closed for course selections this upcoming Wednesday, March 6th at midnight. When MyPath is closed for course selection, returning students will need to meet with their Guidance Counsellor to select their courses for the 2019-2020 school year. It is advised that students select their courses as soon as possible as courses are filling up quickly and decisions regarding course cancellations and closures will be made over the March Break. Please also ensure that the 2019-2020 registration package including the MyPath Option sheet, Registration Form and $40 Activity Fee are submitted to the Guidance office as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. Friday February 1st is a school day. For the morning, Students will be in their scheduled sem 2 classes from 8:20 am to 11:15 am. The bell schedule is posted on the school web site and also posted throughout the school. For the afternoon, students will have the opportunity to view their final exams with their sem 1 teachers also on a schedule from 12 noon until dismissal at 2:48 pm. We encourage all students to attend the afternoon session in addition to the morning session. The afternoon session gives the opportunity to view their final exams and to meet with their sem 1 teachers. School buses will be on a regular schedule. Full STM school uniform is to be worn.

Dear Students and Parents—due to the closure of schools on Tuesday, January 29, please note the following:

-exams scheduled for Tuesday, January 29 will now be written on Wednesday, January 30. Regular transportation will be provided
-Thursday, January 31st is a professional development day. There is no school for students
-second semester begins on Friday, February 1st – students will have an opportunity to view their Semester 1 exams

Public Health Vaccination Clinic - Jan. 29/19

Students born in 2002, 2003 and 2004 who are missing mandatory school vaccines would have received a letter in the mail from Hamilton Pubic Health asking them to provide updated vaccine information to avoid possible suspension from school. If you did not receive a letter, please ignore this message. Please try to receive the outstanding vaccinations at your family doctor’s office or walk-in clinics as soon as possible and update your vaccine record at Public Health. Public Health will be offering a catch-up vaccination clinic to students who received a screening letter who are born in 2002, 2003 or 2004. It is important to note that due to the overwhelming number of students, it is not a guarantee that every student will have the opportunity to be vaccinated at this clinic. The clinic will take place at St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School on Wednesday February 13, 2019. However, it is recommended to have your vaccines up to date before if possible. INCLEMENT WEATHER / SCHOOL CLOSURE:

In the case of school closure or bus cancellation on an exam day due to inclement weather, all examinations will be pushed back one day to accommodate the day lost in the regular exam schedule (e.g. Tuesday exams
will occur on Wednesday, etc.). Information regarding school closure will be announced on the
Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board website (www.hwcdsb.ca), Twitter account
(@HWCDSB), the school’s website (www.stm.hwcdsb.ca) and through local television and radio
stations. In the event of a school closure or bus cancellations (even if schools are open) exams will be
pushed back to the next day . All information is also found on the STM web site. Please do not call the school.

Hello Parents and Guardians.

This message is a reminder that Thursday, January 31 will be Exam Viewing Day. All St. Thomas More students will attend in full uniform on this day to review their final exam results and / or assignment results with their teachers. The bell schedule is posted on the STM web site. All students are encouraged to attend for the purpose of viewing their final exam and bringing forward any questions to their teachers if they have any.

Period 1 = 8:20 a.m. - 9:07 a.m.
Period 2 = 9:09 a.m. - 9:49 a.m.
Period 3 = 9:51 a.m. - 10:31 a.m.
Period 4 = 10:33 a.m. - 11:13 a.m.
Period 5 = 11:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Please note the noon dismissal of all students on Thursday, January 31. School buses will arrive between 12:05 p.m. and 12:10 p.m. to pick-up those students who are bused.

Semester 1 End and Final Exams - Jan. 21/19

This message is for parents and guardians of students at St Thomas More. Students have received a Student Information Package for semester end. It is the expectation that all students and parents/guardians will be familiar with the contents of this Information package. This Student Information package is also found on the STM web site.
Students must be in full school uniform during exams, during the exam viewing day on January 31 and going forward throughout semester 2.
Tuesday, January 22 is a half day of classes. Students will be dismissed at 12 noon. School buses will arrive at school to accommodate the early dismissal and the HSR has also been informed of the early dismissal. The afternoon is for the grade 8 students who wish to come to St Thomas More in September in order to have an orientation visit.
Exams are written from Wed Jan 23 to Tuesday, Jan 29, inclusive. Exams begin promptly at 8:30 am. In addition to the information on the distributed Student Information Package, please refer to page 30 of the Student Agenda Booklet regarding absence from an exam.
First day of exams is Wednesday, Jan 23. Students who are in a period 1 class that has a final exam will write on Wednesday. Thursday is day two of exams. Students who are in period 2 class that has a final exam will write on Thursday. Then follows day three for period 3 class on Friday, day 4 for period 4 class on Monday and day 5 for period 5 class on Tuesday.
Please note all the information provided pertaining to inclement weather and school closure and final exams, arriving late for exams, dress code and book collection.
Wednesday, January 30 is a PD day and there is no school for students.
Thursday, January 31 is the last day of semester one. The morning is for exam viewing and dismissal is at 12 noon.
Friday, February 1 is the first day of semester 2. It is a regular bell schedule.

Students have received their mid semester reports in period one class. Parents are asked to review the report and students are to return the second page, signed. Tuesday, November 20 is the GHAC football championship played at STM field at 3 pm. STM v CN. Entry is $5. Following the GHAC game, the City Jr football championship game is also at STM field, played at 5:30 pm. STM v BR. Entry for this game is $5. Tuesday, November 20 is STM Spirit Wear Day.

Legalization of Cannabis - Oct. 16/18

This message for the St. Thomas More CSS community contains information regarding the legalization of cannabis. On October 17, 2018, cannabis will be legal in Ontario. To buy, have or use cannabis you must be 19 or older. Cannabis remains illegal for anyone under 19 years of age. The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board does not permit smoking, including vaping or the use of cannabis at school or Board sanctioned activities or events. All students are reminded of the Student Code of Conduct where expectations of behavior are outlined, including consequences for being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. For Friday September 28: Ticket sales for student admittance for the Senior Buy In charity football game: St Thomas More Knights vs St. Mary Crusaders at 1:00 pm. Students may purchase a wristband to obtain class dismissal and to gain admittance to the game on STM home field. Student fee is $2.00. Purchase with on line cash. On line cash sales will close at end of period 1 on Friday September 28. Students who purchase wristband will receive them in period 4 class from their teacher. Students on period 4 lunch will receive their wristband in the cafeteria from teachers in period 4 on Friday September 28. Students without a wristband will not be accounted for class absence and will not be granted game admission. Entry fee for all attendees without wristband is $5. Junior Knights play at 7:00 pm on STM field. Admission for all attendees at gate is $5.00. All positive support for St. Thomas More and St. Mary for both games is appreciated. Go Knights Go!

PD Day and Night Football Games - Sept. 20/18

Friday September 21 is a PD day. There is no school nor are there classes for students. St. Thomas More will host its first football game of the season. The STM Knights will play the CN Cardinals on the STM field. The Junior Knights will play at 5 pm and the Senior Knights will play at 7 pm. Entrance fee is $5 per person for all attendees. A food truck will be on site for food purchases. Please come out to cheer on and support the STM Knights.

This message is a reminder of the STM Grade 9 Orientation event that will be held on Thursday, August 30th, starting at 9:30 am.
Grade 9 students are asked to arrive by about 9:10 am and to report to the cafeteria to pick up their timetable and their spirit shirt.

The planned dismissal of the students will be by 11:30 am

This is a message to all girls in grades 9 through to 12 who are interested in trying out for STM's Senior Girls' Basketball Team.
Tryouts will be held at Redeemer College located at 777 Garner Road E on Wednesday, August 29 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm and on Thursday, August 30th from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. All are welcome!

This message is to inform you that junior football tryouts start the week of Monday, August 27 and continue all throughout the week of September 4. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Interested students should be on the turf field by 2:45 pm to sign in. Students should wear weather appropriate clothing and either running shoes or cleats. Although water will be available, we strongly recommend that you bring your own water.
