Athlete of the Month - St. Thomas More CSS
Jaylen Clarke is a grade 12 student who continues to demonstrate his athletic ability and leadership. Jaylen has been on the senior boys’ basketball team for two consecutive years, and was also on the junior team in his grade 9 and 10 years. With his outstanding play, agility, and calm demeanour he has recently earned various all-star and tournament MVP’s which include the Hamilton Spectator’s Athlete of the Week (Jan 2015), the Most Valuable Player in the Brock Badger’s Highschool Invitational (Jan 2015) where he was instrumental in leading the team to victory in the championship, the All Star in the Chancellor (Dec 2014), and the Most Valuable Player for the junior boys basketball team in his grade 10 year (2013). Jaylen was also prominent in leading the senior boy’s football team in winning the title in the HWCDSB Catholic city championship.
As a starter on the team he has taken on the leadership role. He encourages positive play, and dialogues with fellow team members during games and tournaments. Jaylen provides a positive and comfortable atmosphere as he guides the team to work as a cohesive group.
Jaylen is an active parishioner at Living Hope Church and a role model to young athletes as he volunteers at Blessed Sacrament Basketball and at Gannon Baker basketball camp.
Upon graduation, Jaylen has plans and hopes to play at the next level in both basketball and football. St. Thomas More congratulates Jaylen with the HWCAA Athlete of the Month and thank him for his contributions in the school community.
