Athlete of the Month - St. Thomas More CSS
Eric Griffin is St. Thomas More’s April Athlete of the Month. Eric is a grade 11 student who has represented STM on the boy’s indoor soccer team for the past two seasons. Eric has started and played every game over the past two indoor seasons. A talented, aggressive goalkeeper, Eric led his young team to a third place finish with a 2-3-1 record in the regular season leading to a third place finish. Eric led STM to a crucial victory over undefeated Cathedral 1-0 in the last game of the regular season. In the playoffs STM defeated Bishop Ryan in the quarterfinal and Eric was once again phenomenal in net as he saved the final shot to give STM the victory. Unfortunately, in the semi-final, STM lost in a shootout to the eventual champions Cathedral. STM remains the only team to defeat Cathedral in the season. Eric plays for Oakville A U17 and spends time mentoring young soccer players as an assistant goalkeeping coach for Oakville U13 goalkeepers and as a volunteer timer/scorekeeper for youth hockey. He is a focused and hardworking young man on the soccer field and in the classroom. He is an honour roll student who has aspirations of playing soccer at the post-secondary level in the CIS or NCAA and studying criminology or criminal justice. Eric was a key player on our team and much of our success was in part to his dedication and hard work in wanting to better himself every game and every practice. Eric, his team and his coaches are looking forward to the upcoming outdoor soccer season because with Eric there is so much MORE to come!
