June 2016 - Ike Usifo

Athlete of the Month - St. Thomas More CSS

Only in grade 10, Ike returned home from the OFSAA Track and Field competition this month with two medals. He won a silver medal in the 4 x 100 metre junior boys event and finished third in the province in the junior boys 200 metre dash.

The OFSAA Track and Field event is the largest athletic event in Canada with incredible competition and Ike shined as the lone Knight to win an individual event!

This was a repeat OFSAA showing for Ike. Last year he took home a bronze medal in the midget boys 4 x 100m relay and competed in the midget boys 100 metre event.
Throughout this season Ike wowed the competition with his speed, finishing 1st place in the junior boys 100m dash at both the Ray Lewis Track Meet and the Mark Graham Invitational.

Although Ike has been participating in school track and field events since elementary school he has only recently started training with an outside club. Much of what he has accomplished therefore is because of his God-given gifts and determination.

The STM Track and Field team slogan is borrowed from the Olympian Steve Prefontaine. "Pre" once said that "to give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift."

Ike has continuously given his best all season and deserves congratulations on being selected the St. Thomas More Athlete of the Month for June.
