On September 10, 2025, senior law students from St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School and St. Mary Catholic Secondary School attended the 68th Annual Red Mass of the St. Thomas More Lawyers’ Guild of the Diocese of Hamilton, held at St. Catherine of Siena Parish. The Mass, celebrated by Bishop Douglas Crosby, marks the opening of the fall session of the courts and calls for God’s blessing on those serving in the legal profession.
Students played active roles in the liturgy: Grade 12 STM student Lucas Thoma proclaimed the First Reading, while STM Student Council President Adrianna Stocco and St. Mary student Evangeline Spekkens served as gift bearers. Also in attendance were Mr. Valconi, STM Principal, and Mr. Bloc, STM School Chaplain, showing support for the students.
Following the celebration, students joined members of the legal community for a breakfast reception where Jeff Manishen, a respected Hamilton criminal defence lawyer, delivered the keynote address. Speaking on themes of self-fulfilment, purpose, and gratitude, Mr. Manishen encouraged students to remain grounded in their values as they prepare for future careers.
A special thank you is extended to Mr. Peter Boushy, President of the St. Thomas More Lawyers’ Guild, for his leadership in organizing the event, which continues to connect faith, education, and justice.
