Below is the letter of information:
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please be advised that an individual in your child’s class has tested positive for COVID-19.
Due to the widespread transmission of Omicron and changes to the provincial testing approach, the Ministry of Education announced that it would be suspending reporting of COVID-19 cases in schools. To support ongoing monitoring and transparency at the class level, St. Thomas More C.S.S. will continue to notify affected classes/cohorts of any positive COVID-19 cases reported to the school. Parents/guardians should notify the school if their child tests positive for COVID-19 on either a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).
Under the updated provincial guidance, Public Health will no longer be dismissing cohorts/classes. Students and staff whose only exposure to a COVID case was at the school are not considered to be high-risk contacts and are not required to isolate. Individuals who do not have symptoms, have not been advised to isolate, and have passed the COVID-19 School and Child Care Screening may continue to attend school and child care.
We continue to work closely with Hamilton Public Health Services to ensure that all health and safety measures are in place at our school. Students and staff are reminded to follow all public health protocols, e.g., masking, physical distancing, hand hygiene, and to screen daily for COVID-19 symptoms on the provincial COVID-19 school screening website. Please be sure to follow the directions provided in the COVID-19 school screening. If your child is sick, they must stay home from school. Rigorous screening and monitoring of symptoms by students, families, and staff is critical to limiting transmission and keeping schools safe and open for in-person learning.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,
Brian Daly, Principal
