Principal's Message
Welcome to St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School where we endeavour to authentically live out our school motto, “Praestantia Scholastica, Praestantia Athletica, Praestantia Religiosa,” which means Excellence in Academics, Athletics and Religion. It is appropriate because our school strives for excellence both inside and outside of the classroom. St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School enjoys a rich tradition dating back to 1972, and is a shining example of what a quality, Catholic education can be -- diverse, inclusive, and loving. We are glad you have chosen to join our faith-based community.
My goal as principal is to maintain and enhance St. Thomas More’s well-earned reputation. I encourage students to aim high. “Happy are those who dream dreams, and are willing to pay the price to make them come true” is a saying my parents instilled in me and my brothers when we were growing up. At St. Thomas More, we will work cooperatively with our outstanding staff to serve our students, and help them realize their full potential.
On a personal level, I am a happily married, 47-year-old father of four (3 daughters, 1 son), and a parishioner of Regina Mundi Parish. I am a proud graduate of Cathedral High School, and attended McGill University in Montreal where I met my wife, Lesley, who is originally from Halifax, NS. After beginning my teaching career at Sacred Heart Elementary School, I returned to Cathedral where I taught mathematics and coached basketball for many years. As a vice-principal, I continued to serve Cathedral for 3 years, before having the pleasure of fulfilling the same role here, at St. Thomas More. For the past 3 years, I was entrusted with the role of principal at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School. It is my honour to return to St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School in 2021.
I pray that despite the current challenges before us, 2021/2022 will be a year of healing and renewal for our school community. Please visit our school website (stm.hwcdsb.ca) and consider connecting with us on Twitter (@stmcss), Instagram (stm.hwcdsb), or Facebook. Thank you for trusting us with the Catholic education of your children.
Brian Daly,
Principal
