Hamilton Mountain students eye fall graduation ceremonies

As June approaches, signifying the end of another school year, many graduates are feeling the sting of missing friends a little extra.

In an interview with Hamilton Mountain News, Grade 12 Student Council President from St. Thomas More Catholic Elementary School Mary Odisho shared her thoughts on a graduating year.

“We’ve been waiting the past four years to walk across the stage and get the handshake,” said Odisho. “I feel one minute we were preparing and getting our graduation dresses, and the next minute it was stay at home.”

To keep school spirit high, Odisho hosts weekly student council meetings on Zoom where they brainstorm ways to keep the student body engaged via Instagram.

While there won’t be a traditional graduation celebration in June, STM principal Dean DiFrancesco said the school is planning to recognize graduates in a special way.

A “typical” graduation ceremony is being planned for October.
