On Wednesday September 5, 2018, we had the honour and privilege to join Catholic lawyers, judges, and police officers at the Diocese of Hamilton’s Red Mass.
We participated as gift bearers at the Mass, where Bishop Douglas Crosby was the principal celebrant at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King.
The annual Red Mass is the solemn invocation of the Holy Spirit for Divine Wisdom for those who plead, interpret and apply the law for the welfare of all. It is also a reminder to those in the legal profession to embody the values epitomized by St. Thomas More.
St. Thomas More, the patron saint of our school, served as Lord Chancellor to King Henry VIII and was a man of tremendous integrity and faith. He was beatified in 1886, and in 1935 was canonized a saint. Today he is the patron saint of lawyers.
Following the mass, we attended the lawyer` breakfast at Lo Presti’s At Maxwell’s Restaurant where we heard a Freedom of Religion lawyer from Ottawa speak on 5 cases where he represented individuals at the Supreme Court of Canada.
We would like to thank the Saint Thomas More Lawyers Guild President, Mr. Peter Bushy for the invitation, and Mrs. Leone. Mrs. Cannon and Mrs. Boase for accompanying us on this inspirational experience.
